If he had been alive today, undoubtedly JMW Turner would have made use of photography. Throughout his life he created thousands of sketches supporting his wonderful paintings.
One of his sketchbooks includes drawings and unfinished watercolours of scenes on the Isle of Wight, and he also committed time in producing several completed masterpieces.
My booklet has been inspired by his sketches – the originals can be searched and seen online at tate.org.uk . I have sought to follow Turner’s route criss-crossing the island and wherever possible photographing his original locations, often from the same view enjoyed by Turner himself.
